Women's Discipleship Update

Jul 01, 2020 | By Dru Hale

Sisters at Summit Apex,

Psalm 62:5-6 says, “Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken.”

Praise the Lord that He is solid, stable, and unshakable. His character is constant. Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Nothing can change who He is or how He is working. May we continue to be unshaken in our faith and find our hope in Him in this season that is ever-changing.

ServeRDU: August 9-15

ServeRDU Week is our annual, strategic week of service where we mobilize the members of our church and highlight the amazing work of our community partners to meet tangible needs of our neighbors in the Triangle.

As you might imagine, things are going to look different this year. But our goal hasn’t changed: We want to use ServeRDU week to pray, serve, and connect with our city as we continue to be the church in our communities, even when we can’t go to church. Click here for more information and to get involved!

Coffee & Connections

We will not have a Coffee and Connections in August. Our next Coffee and Connections will be Friday, September 18th. We are planning to meet in-person so stay tuned for more details!

 Fall Bible Studies

Women’s Bible Studies will open for registration on Monday, August 24th and start Monday, September 14th. Due to the church campus remaining closed for the semester, various studies will be offered throughout the week at different times throughout the day via Zoom and in-home. In-home studies will be limited to no more than 10 women. No childcare will be offered for any study, but we hope the flexibility of different times throughout the week will enable all to participate! There will be no cost to register, but you must provide your own book. Should you need it, we will send you details for where to order your study book. We look forward to faithfully digging into God’s Word in a new format this semester! Here is the list of studies:

Monday

(VIRTUAL 10-11 am) God of Covenant: A Study of Genesis 12-50 by Jen Wilkin (10 weeks)

Walkthrough the stories of the fathers of our faith—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph and discover how God is working everything together for His glory and for the good of His people. Discover how God orchestrates everything for His glory and the good of His people, and see how the God of creation and covenant is the same yesterday, today, and forever. There are videos associated with this study which may be watched on your own time (approximately 40 minutes in length).

(VIRTUAL 1-2 pm) Colossians: Raised Together by Gloria Furman (8 weeks)

Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae encourages believers to live out the reality of the doctrine of Christ—He is God, He is supreme, and He is sufficient. We have been buried with Him and raised to life with Him as new creations, knit together in love. Explore themes of fundamental Christian doctrine through a verse-by-verse study of Colossians. Learn who Christ is, who you are in Him, and how to grow and mature in your faith. There are videos associated with this study which may be watched on your own time (approximately 10 minutes in length).

(VIRTUAL 6:45-8:30pm) Ruth: Loss, Love & Legacy by Kelly Minter (6 weeks)

Walkthrough Ruth's journey of unbearable loss, redeeming love, and divine legacy. This study delves into the virtuous character of Ruth, her unique relationship with her mother-in-law Naomi, and her blossoming love with Boaz. The story of Ruth portrays God’s blessing on the righteous. This outcome was only accomplished though, through Boaz’s righteous response. Through his actions, Boaz communicates Christ. His person and character illustrate the incredible steadfast, unfailing love that Christ possesses for his people, as well as, the great measures he is willing to take to redeem his bride.

(VIRTUAL 7-8:30 pm) Trustworthy: A Study of 1 & 2 Kings by Lysa Terkheurst (6 weeks)

When hard times come and it seems God is deviating from the plan we assume our life should follow, we’re more likely to want to tame God, not trust Him. It’s then that we begin to press into our ways and our own timing. No human can carry the weight of being their own god, but so many of us try. In this study, join Lysa in Israel as she honestly reveals the places of distrust in her own heart while exploring the deeply applicable Scriptures that will teach us how to truly trust God. There are videos associated with this study which may be watched on your own time (approximately 20 minutes in length).

(IN HOME 7-8:30 pm) God of Creation: A Study of Genesis 1-11 by Jen Wilkin (10 weeks) LOCATION TBD

The opening lines and chapters of Genesis teach us fundamental truths about God. We watch Him bring light after darkness, order after chaos, and rest after toil—all through the power of His Word. Revisit familiar stories and historical figures, challenge your basic knowledge, and discover deeper meanings in the text. As God reveals Himself through Scripture, we can only begin to understand ourselves when we first glimpse the character, attributes, and promises of our Creator. We will be watching the videos associated with this study (approximately 40 minutes in length).

(IN HOME 7:30-9 pm) Jude by Jackie Hill Perry (7 weeks)- APEX

While often overlooked, the book of Jude remains as relevant today as the time it was written. God has commanded His beloved church to do the necessary work of contending for the faith in a world of unbelief, and as we do, He will keep us from falling into the same deception. Dive into themes of being called, loved, and kept, and learn how to point others to Jesus in grace and truth. We serve others well when we share the whole gospel with them, not just the parts deemed attractive by our culture. There are videos associated with this study which may be watched on your own time (approximately 15-20 minutes in length).

Through stories of Old Testament heroes and practices, the author of Hebrews demonstrates how the new covenant is superior to the old and how Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of every promise. Explore familiar verses in the context of the entire Bible, learning how to place your hope and faith in Christ alone. (VIRTUAL 6:30-8 am) Joshua: All God’s Good Promises by Kathleen Nielson (10 weeks)

This study brings you face to face with the promise-keeping God of Joshua and the same God of today. From the first lesson where we learn of God’s promise to Joshua to be with him wherever he goes, through the middle lessons of God’s faithful leading, to the final lesson of the people’s response to Joshua’s charge ‘to choose,’ we are challenged to respond in faith and obedience to this same faithful, powerful, covenant-keeping God. This study encourages and inspires a love for and faith in a God who never changes, and who will fulfill all his promises.

(IN HOME 9-11 am) The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer (7 weeks)- CARY

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. If you're tired of being pushed around and caught with your guard down, this study is for you. The Enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of the believer's inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy to secure victory. We will be watching the videos associated with this study (approximately 40 minutes in length).
